Introduction

Spotify is a commercial music streaming service providing digital rights management-restricted content. Music can be browsed or searched by artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label. Free subscriptions can listen to music, interrupted by targeted advertisements. Paid “Premium” subscriptions remove advertisements and allow users to download music to listen to offline.
The service has also introduced social functions such as the “Follow” feature which allows following friends or artists and verified artist profiles.

Spotify was launched in October 2008 by Swedish startup Spotify AB.  As of November 2020, the service has approximately 320 million monthly active users with 144 million paid subscribers.
